Helping you find your way back to yourself and make room for the life you want

Allie King, PhD, LMFT—Trauma Therapist

Meet Allie (she/her)

Hi! My name is Allie, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

I love working with people who have big dreams but feel held back by challenges such as anxiety, perfectionism, limiting beliefs, or insecurity in relationships. I often work with thoughtful, caring people who are deeply supportive of their loved ones, yet struggle to offer themselves that same gentleness, compassion, and understanding. My experience as both a therapist and a fellow human has shown me that people are truly remarkable, but sometimes, difficult life experiences can ruptureour sense of self-worth and prevent us from seeing how special we really are. I am passionate about helping clients reclaim their voice, know their worth, and take up space.

I believe that having a therapeutic relationship where there is a felt sense of safety is a prerequisite for change and growth. I aim to bring a warm and steady presence to the therapy room where you feel respected, valued, and seen. I feel incredibly privileged to sit alongside clients and be a witness to their story and healing.

My Specialties Include:

  • Perfectionism, self-worth, and the inner critic

  • People-pleasing, boundaries, and vulnerability

  • Attachment wounds and relationship healing

What it’s Like to Work With Me

I would describe my therapeutic approach as doing “the deep work” and moving towards creating lasting change in how you relate to yourself and move through the world. My clinical work is guided by attachment-based therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. Together, these approaches help us slow down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and create meaningful shifts in how you relate to yourself and others.

While each client and treatment plan will be unique, I believe that we often need to look to the past to understand what’s keeping us stuck in the present. With your permission and always at your pace, we will explore where your limiting beliefs come from and how your past experiences may still be shaping you today. We may also explore relationship patterns, including people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries or expressing vulnerability, and fears of rejection or abandonment. In the process, you and I will gently and compassionately work toward shifting patterns that may no longer be serving you. We’ll also practice slowing down and connecting with your emotions and body, rather than simply thinking your way through what you’re experiencing.

Healing can be really difficult work, but it can also open the portal to a sense of peace, connection, and lightness that may have previously felt out of reach. I wholeheartedly believe this is possible for you.

The Human Behind the Therapist

My Favorite Things

  • Running. My best friend and I run a race in a new state every year.

  • My goldendoodle Huckleberry. He tags along basically everywhere I go.

  • Swimming in the ocean (even when it is freezing cold!)

  • Crocheting. I recently learned how to crochet and now have the perfect baby shower gift.

  • Audiobooks. In my free time, I pretty much always have headphones in my ears listening to some book.

  • The show Survivor. I have watched since I was a child and have seen about 95% of the 50 seasons.

  • Learning new things. Next on the list: Learning Spanish, guitar, and beach volleyball!

My Quirks

  •  I have a superb memory. Do not be alarmed if I remember the names of your extended family members and pets.

  • I like to celebrate half birthdays.

  • I am an excellent parallel parker after years of having to street park in Philly. This is a source of great pride for me.

  • Ninety percent of what I drink is sparkling water.

  • On the outside I appear lighthearted, but I am secretly very competitive when it comes to any sport or game.

  • I am most comfortable sitting in a pretzel-like position.

  • I play Wordle every day and have a group chat with my mom and grandma where we report our scores.

  • A friend and I have sent each other a Snapchat every day for 2,800 days and counting. At his point, I am deeply worried about losing our streak.

  • Despite not being a baseball fan, I know a surprising amount about MLB from growing up in a family obsessed with baseball.
